The Natural Iron Royal Sun Fireback adds style and protection to your fireplace. The detail work of this cast iron fireback includes a scalloped border, an ivy field and an impressive sunburst surrounding the royal symbol of France: the Fleur de lis. Firebacks have been used for centuries to protect the rear masonry of the fireplace from the intense heat of the fire. And a fireback reflects a portion of the heat normally lost back into your room. Your fireback should be large enough to protect the area of the rear wall directly behind the fire, but should not extend into the flue opening where it could choke off the draft or interfere with the damper. An area of 4 to 15-inches can be left on either side of the fireback. We also offer fireback supports to hold your fireback in place.
